Miss Alicia (as her students call her!) specializes in private and group studies for all ages and levels. Whether the focus is elementary fundamentals, jazz improvisation, sight reading, audition preparation, or simply building a stronger repertoire, Miss Rau’s teaching and performing experience provides each student with the appropriate materials for a rewarding lesson.
But more importantly, Miss Rau makes it FUN!!! Students are known to sometimes struggle with drive and determination, often searching for inspiration or finding the time to practice. To help boost motivation, Miss Rau’s sessions are packed with incentives, including recitals, supplements, stickers, and even magic tricks along the way!
The key to success with your instrument is that you enjoy playing music and find pleasure in the process of learning. Amidst structure and focus, Miss Rau follows this effective teaching approach, creating a foundation for success.
Miss Rau also conducts and arranges classical, contemporary, and jazz music for middle school concert bands. She instructs group classes in piano, brass, flute, recorder, and general music both privately and with Public School 29 of Brooklyn Heights, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, and Murray Hill’s Public School 116. Miss Rau also assists with recruiting and rehearsing young musicians for the Sesame Street float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.
Please contact Alicia for information about group, one-on-one, and parent-child combo lessons in piano, flute, recorder, trombone, and trumpet. Information on lesson rates, group deals, and current public school projects are also available upon request.

“Alicia is an outstanding music educator and has a special gift with young musicians. She has infused my 9-year-old with a passion for playing music - from the piano to the flute.”
- Nadia Leather, parent of a budding musician
“Alicia is a wonderful teacher, who works on mastery of technique and theory, and at the same time keeps my child focused on the joy of music and on having fun. She is terrific with my daughter's sometimes wandering concentration and maintains a good spirit while getting her back on track. My daughter has zoomed forward with her work on the trumpet, which has also built her self-esteem. We are lucky to have found Alicia, to be her guide and inspiration!”
– Rachel Green, parent of young trumpet student
